The beginning of the weekend was a little slick for some but the end was absolutely beautiful. High pressure quickly moved any lingering wintry weather early Saturday morning south, leaving much of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin with clear skies and warming temperatures.
High temperatures both Saturday and Sunday reached the low to mid 50's, roughly five to ten degrees above average in some locations. The warm trend, however, doesn't stick around for the start of the week as temperatures are expected to fall back below average as early as Tuesday.
Another high pressure system will move down from Canada Monday bringing with it a slightly cooler air mass. Winds will increase from the northeast Monday afternoon, gusting as high as 35 mph. At the same time low pressure will be moving out of the Plains and into Missouri and southern Illinois by Monday evening. With the high pressure system holding firm over southern Canada the overall storm track will remain mostly south of the Stateline helping to keep our skies dry through the middle to end of the week.
Unfortunately it will also bring temperatures down from where they've been with highs falling from the upper 40's to low 50's Monday, down into the low 40's Tuesday and Wednesday. By the end of the week the high to the north will weaken allowing the storm track to shift a little further north. This could bring another storm system into the Midwest and Great Lakes as early as Friday afternoon with a mixture of rain and snow by Saturday.
