Colder Start This Week, But a Warmer End

Another messy view with our Mercyhealth Skycam in Freeport.  After a weekend filled with rain, snow, sleet, strong winds, and freezing rain, we had to start the work week with a little snow as well, alongside some cold temperatures in the mid 30's.  Not exactly what we were expecting when heading into the 3RD week of April, but luckily those warm temperatures are starting to pop back up in our forecast!

This has been one of the most snow-filled Aprils yet, as we've already seen 3 inches of snow this April.  The past few years have only seen near half an inch of snow total for the month of April.  The average snowfall for April in Rockford is one inch, and we've already beaten the monthly average this year by quite a bit, and in half the time!

After a few flurries early on this evening before 9pm, we'll stay mostly cloudy until midnight, after which we'll start to see the clouds become partly cloudy.  This low pressure system will pull cold air into our area, keeping our temperatures chilly, and the partly cloudy skies will allow temperatures to cool off even more into the mid 20's overnight, while also bringing some patchy fog early Tuesday morning.

This high pressure ridge is what will start clearing our skies, but the good news is that this ridge will stay with us through all of Tuesday, meaning that we'll get some sunshine during the afternoon, which will help warm us up into the mid 40's!  This being the beginning of a warmup that we'll see take place heading into the weekend.

Unfortunately we do have to get through another wintry mix first, when another low pressure system moves in on Wednesday.  It'll bring a warm front to our area during the afternoon, allowing for some light rain showers, before the low tracks east and pulls colder air into our area, transitioning the rain over to snow Wednesday evening.  However, accumulations look to stay light, around an inch at most.

Afterwards, a strong high pressure ridge tracks into our area, which will bring us plenty of sunshine heading into the weekend, and for the weekend as well.  The extra sunshine will bring us into the 50's by the end of the work week
