Overnight showers dropped .10" of rain over northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin yesterday evening and overnight. We have a really nice afternoon in store, with highs getting close to 70° and partly cloudy skies. An incoming wave will bring a threat for showers and even a few thunderstorms through Wisconsin this evening, but the southern edge will move through portions of northern Illinois.
A few showers will linger into Friday morning, but as the disturbance
passes east we'll tap into a few dry hours through the afternoon. Low pressure moving into Iowa will allow for the cold front to lift north in the afternoon as a warm front.
Another wave will move into the area for Friday evening, and coverage of rain and storms will increase through Saturday morning. There is some instability present, which will allow for some storms to be possible. Higher instability will be present to our south and west and this is where we see an area for strong to severe potential, from eastern Texas and Oklahoma through southern Iowa.
As we lose moisture through Saturday, the rain will begin to ease up. though it will be a cloudy and damp afternoon. Rain totals through Saturday will add up between .75"- 1.50". As temperatures fall Sunday, rain will transition to a bit of a wintry mix which could cause slick issues Sunday.
