Coldest Start to April on Record


The warmth Wednesday and Thursday was much needed after an extremely cold start to the month of April.  The first ten days of the month temperatures were well below average making it the coldest start to April in Rockford's history.  One has to look back all the way to 1975 to have temperatures as cold as they were the first week and a half here in northern Illinois.


The average temperature for Rockford was just a little over 30 degrees.  That's the type of cold expected in the middle of winter, not the beginning of Spring.  It was also the second most consecutive days below 50 degrees.  And while temperatures will cool off heading into the weekend it won't get quite as cold as it's been
