After a picture perfect day yesterday, unfortunately the weather this weekend deteriorates quickly.
It will be cooler, cloudy, with a threat for rain today. An incoming warm front will stall just south of the area . This will allow for a drastic difference in temperatures from north to south. Highs in southern Wisconsin could remain in the 40's, with highs in Rockford in the 50's and 60's and 70's south of Rockford.
Rain will be on and off this afternoon, with mainly just showers expected. However, as the low approaches this evening, we bring in a threat for storms.
The higher severe weather threat will remain to the south and west of the area, though a few gusty storms are possible this evening. Storms that move through northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin will feature pockets of heavy rain, gusty winds, and potentially small hail as cold air arrives aloft. The heaviest of the rain moves in after dinner time tonight, and lasts through tomorrow morning.
Through Saturday rain showers continue, though they will ease up through the day. However it will be colder and very windy.
Highs remain in the 40's with strong northeast winds gusting near 40 mph. This will make for difficult driving conditions. Rain showers continue Saturday night into Sunday morning.
A cold front passes and temperatures fall even more, with highs on Sunday struggling to get out of the 30's. Rain showers will turn to a wintry mix of rain, sleet, and snow Sunday morning before turning to all snow. We will have light snow accumulations into Sunday evening. Most of northern Illinois will see under an inch of snow Sunday.
It will remain cooler on Monday with highs in the 40's but at least it will be drier with sunshine later in the day!
