The chilly stretch of weather will come to an end later this week with temperatures climbing back up near average Wednesday and Thursday - upper 50's/low 60's. The pattern change, however, will come with an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms through the start of the weekend.
The jet stream will be begin to lift north late Tuesday and Wednesday pulling warmer air into northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. This will bring temperatures up from the 40's, back into the mid and upper 50's by Wednesday - more seasonable for this time of year. Along with the warmth will come moisture and this will lead to increasing showers, and possibly a few thunderstorms, Wednesday night.
As the change in the jet stream pattern continues, a stronger low pressure system will develop late Thursday night and Friday. This will pull even more warmth northward during the day Friday possibly bringing temperatures up near 70 degrees. But the warmth will depend on a couple things: cloud cover, timing of a cold front and any showers and thunderstorms that may be ongoing Friday morning.
Thunderstorm, and severe weather chances, increase with a quickly changing weather pattern. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible for the Stateline Wednesday night, Thursday night and Friday afternoon/evening. The overall severe threat remains low for us this week, but we do need to pay attention to just how warm temperatures climb Friday and the arrival of a cold front. It's possible that a few gusty thunderstorms may occur during the afternoon and evening Friday.
