Spring System Brings Strong Storms and Heavy Snow

As Chief Meteorologist Candice King mentioned in the previous post, our next low pressure system today brings heavy snow across the Plains and Upper Midwest. But to the south of the area, strong to severe storms will be possible. The Storm Prediction Center has put southeast Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana, along with areas in the mid-south, under a severe weather outlook.

On the southern side of this system, strong to severe storms will be possible this afternoon. Threats include heavy rain, isolated tornadoes, strong winds, and hail will all be possible across the Ohio River Valley.

It will be a bit more quiet for the Stateline but still damp, with mainly showers expected through the afternoon. Don't be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder though this afternoon. Expect rain totals around .10" to .25" through the afternoon.

A strong cold front will pass, and strong cold air advection begins this evening into Wednesday. Temperatures will crash into the 20's, as rain turns to snow. Generally around Rockford we will see an inch or less, with 1-2" possible across southern Wisconsin.
However, its possible for a few areas across southern Wisconsin to receive up to 3" which has prompted a Winter Weather Advisory to be issued across Green, Rock, and Walworth counties. Going into effect for Green county at 3pm, and 7pm for Rock and Walworth, and lasting through Wednesday morning.

While today will (somewhat) feel like spring with the incoming rain, tonight will very much feel like winter. Along with the falling snow and temperatures in the 20's, winds will strengthen out of the northwest. Watch for sustained winds around 15-20mph but gusting near 30-35mph into Wednesday morning.
