A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll and Whiteside counties beginning early Wednesday morning and lasting through Wednesday afternoon. A break in the rain will continue Tuesday evening as thunderstorms continue to move across Iowa and Wisconsin.
Storm coverage is expected to increase after Midnight, and mostly likely between 1am-3am across northwest Illinois and southwest Wisconsin. As a cold front continues through Iowa Wednesday morning, rain showers will increase over northern Illinois. The rain will be heavy at times and could contain gusty winds through the afternoon.
An additional inch to inch and a half of rain will be likely for most through Wednesday afternoon. With saturated soils, the rainfall will quickly runoff and could produce flash flooding. In addition to the runoff, rivers and creeks are in moderate flood stage and the additional rainfall will only prolong or worsen the ongoing river flooding.
