River Flooding Expected This Weekend/Early Next Week

Flood Warnings continue for the Pecatonica and Rock Rivers in far northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, while Flood Advisories continue for the Rock River from Byron to Dixon.  Significant rainfall over the Stateline and Midwest have kept local river levels running high the past couple of weeks.  With the rain that has already fallen, and the anticipated rainfall through the weekend, significant flooding could occur with rivers rising into moderate flood stage by the weekend or early next week.

Here are the current river stages and the expected crest stages and times:

Pecatonica River:
Shirland: Current stage: 13.51ft Minor Flood Stage
Forecast: 14ft Moderate Flood Stage Monday Morning

Freeport: Current stage: 13.12ft Minor Flood Stage
Forecast: 14.8ft Moderate Flood Stage Monday

Rock River:
Rockton: Current stage: 10.1ft Minor Flood Stage
Forecast: 11.2ft Moderate Flood Stage Tuesday

Latham Park: Current stage: 10.42ft Minor Flood Stage
Forecast: 11.2ft Moderate Flood Stage Sunday night

Byron: Current stage: 12.17ft Action Stage
Forecast: 12.9ft Action Stage Monday

Dixon: Current stage: 13.69ft Action Stage
Forecast: 14.6ft Action Stage Monday night

It's important to remember that as additional rain either falls or drains into the river basin, the crest heights and times could change.  Those living along the river should pay close attention to the forecasts over the weekend and early next week.  For daily information, visit the National Weather Service Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service page.
