Temperatures Monday afternoon warmed into the low 80's following the passage of a warm front earlier in the day. Winds were also gusty from the south and will remain from the south through Tuesday. There will be an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening as low pressure slides in from the southwest, and a cold front advances from the west. Tropical moisture from the Gulf will lead to the potential for more heavy rain, especially early Wednesday, with another inch to inch and a half falling.
The threat for severe weather will remain highest west of the Mississippi River Monday evening and Tuesday, ahead of the cold front. But a few gustier thunderstorms could be possible late Tuesday evening and night over northwest and north-central Illinois.
Isolated thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday morning and early afternoon, but storm coverage should increase after 4pm/5pm before becoming more widespread Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Storms will come to an end Wednesday evening with the passage of the cold front. Winds will increase from the Northwest Wednesday night and continue into Thursday, gusting as high as 35mph.
