Flood Watches have been issued for Green, Rock and Walworth counties in southern Wisconsin and for Stephenson, Jo Daviess and Carroll counties in northwest Illinois beginning Wednesday. A strong storm system moving through the Midwest Tuesday night and Wednesday will bring warmer temperatures, but also the potential for heavy rainfall. The rain combined with the warmer temperatures will allow for snow melt over southern Wisconsin and northwest Illinois.
The ground is nearly completely saturated, and still frozen, so any additional rain will runoff into local creeks, streams and rivers. The runoff will have the possibility of producing flooding across much of the area.
Flood Warnings and Flood Watches also remain in effect for the Rock, Pecatonica and Kishwaukee Rivers through the weekend. Most of the rivers are in Action Stage but are forecast to rise through Moderate, coming close to Major, flood stage later this week and weekend.
