First of all, Happy Pi Day! No we are not talking about the pies you bake. We are talking about the math symbol Pi that equals 3.14! Here's a look at your National Pi Day forecast!
The Storm Prediction Center has placed a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms for the eastern portion of the Stateline. This includes half of Dekalb and Boone counties, as well as McHenry and Walworth counties.
A marginal risk (dark green) is the lowest of five categories when forecasting severe weather. A higher severe weather threat is off to our east and southeast where you see the yellow.
The best chance for thunderstorms today is during the late morning and early afternoon time frame. The main hazards with these thunderstorms will be damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall! Any wind gusts produced by these storms could be as high as 70 mph!
As we time it out for you here on Futurecast, we stop the clock at 1 and 2 PM this afternoon. We can see a cluster of storms beginning to make their way through the region. After these storms move out, we will continue to see a chance for a few rain showers heading into tonight!
Now, the Wind Advisory that was issued last night is still in effect until 7 PM this evening. This advisory includes Rock, Walworth, Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Carroll, Whiteside, Ogle, Lee, and Dekalb counties.
Winds will ramp up during the afternoon and could see a few wind gusts up to 45-50 mph. Especially between noontime and 6 PM this evening. That is enough to blow around loose objects in your yard. Plus, make for difficult travel for high profile vehicles!
