Low pressure will move into the Midwest early Saturday morning before shifting into the Great Lakes Sunday morning. Ahead of the low a warm, moisture rich air mass will lift into northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Temperatures will slowly begin to warm Friday night before quickly warming above freezing Saturday morning.
As moisture lifts northward it is possible that a very brief period of light freezing drizzle/rain may occur before quickly transitioning to rain during
the afternoon. The rain could be heavy at times, especially if a few thunderstorms develop. Rainfall totals will most likely reach half an inch, but there could be some locations that come close to one inch by Saturday evening. Drier air will move into northern Illinois during the evening Saturday bringing an end to some of the heavier rain, with drizzle likely for the rest of the evening.
Colder air does get wrapped in behind the low late Saturday evening and this could lead to a few light snow showers mixing in with some of the rain overnight Saturday into Sunday. Temperatures on Saturday will warm into the low 40s, but then fall through the low 30s once the cold front passes Sunday mid-morning.
While northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin will deal with mostly rain (and a clap of thunder or two) areas in the south could be dealing with the threat for severe weather once again, and in some areas that were hit with severe weather just this past Sunday. Already a 'slight risk' for severe weather has been highlighted for locations in the South, focusing on Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama.
