Warm, But Rainy Weekend
Clouds and a little bit of light snow is moving across the Stateline this morning. We shouldn't see much in the way of accumulations, with just a light coating possible in some areas.
As we end off the work week, we'll remain mainly cloudy throughout much of today. Highs should warm into the upper 30s this afternoon. We'll remain in the upper 30s to lower 40s for the weekend and into early next week. As we go into the middle and end of next week, we could be flirting with 50°.
While Saturday will be warmer and close to normal, it's also going to be a rainy one. Saturday early morning looks to be the only point when it will be dry.
By the late morning and early afternoon hours rain should being to slide in from the southwest to the northeast. Some of the rain could be heavy at times during the afternoon hours.
Rain becomes widespread during the afternoon and into the evening hours. Not only could some of the rain be heavy at times (indicated by the yellows and oranges on Futurecast), but we could also hear a few rumbles of thunder.
By the time it is all said and done, we could be looking at upwards of half an inch to just over three quarters of an inch of rain.
The best chance for rain will be during the late morning/early afternoon hours and continuing into the early evening hours. Overnight we have the slight chance to see some mixed precipitation as the system pushes off to the east.
There's still some snow on the ground across the Stateline, and also across central portions of the state from yesterday's light snow.
With Saturday's rain and warm temperatures, expect some of that snow to melt.
Not only will be see rain and warm temperatures, but also very blustery conditions. Expect wind gusts to top out between 40 to 50 mph, as the low pressure system tracks off to the northeast.
While we'll warm up into the upper 30s to lower 40s today and into the weekend, we'll still be below average. Our average high temperature for this time of the year should be in the low to mid 40s, so we'll come close. With that said, the stretch of below average temperatures look to continue for at least the next several days. As of today, we've been below average for 12 days since February 25th.
The warm up is coming just in time for the start of Spring. March 20th, 2019 at 4:58pm is the official start to the Spring Equinox.
