500-Year Flood Anniversary
On July 19, 1993, the Mississippi River from southern Minnesota to Missouri was at a 500-year high. 17 years later, the Stateline could use a little more rain. So far, we've seen just 0.80" of rain in July. That's 1.62" below normal for the month. May and June were both above average in terms of rainfall, but it doesn't take long for things to dry-out again, especially when temperatures are running above normal! I was just noting the brown and yellow grass that's beginning to show along the Rock River near Sinnissipi Gardens. The good news is we will have a few opportunities for beneficial rain this week as a frontal zone remains nearly stationary over the area. --TS
