Wintry Mess Made for Slick Commute for Some

It's been a bit slick for some this morning, but there have been big improvements in road conditions from yesterday evening. You'll still want to watch for a few slick locations, as light snow passes along the Wisconsin border this morning.

While we still had the Freezing Rain Advisory in place through 9am, the bulk of the wintry weather took aim at Chicago, the suburbs and central Illinois. This morning there were reports of rain, thunder sleet, snow and ice. Roads were snow and ice covered making for a hazardous commute. This area of wintry weather will continue east today along a stationary boundary into Indiana and Ohio, even a few isolated severe wind gusts will occur in those storms!

Next system and freezing rain threat will stay just south of the area into the weekend. High pressure will move overhead which will help to suppress system just to our south. But there are already Winter Storm Watches in place from southern Illinois through Missouri and all the way out to Oklahoma. Storm could cut power to hundreds of thousands this weekend!
