Blowing Snow Picks Up Late Tuesday

Though by lunchtime, most of the heavy snow has ended around the area, some scattered snow can still be expected later on in the afternoon as wrap around moisture associated with this Clipper system is moving southeastward from Minnesota.

But the greater concern heading into Tuesday afternoon and evening is the blowing snow.  Wind gusts upwards of 35-40mph can be expected and even an astounding 53mph gust was reported in Cedar Rapids, IA early on Tuesday.  That same windy air mass is heading our way and will reek havoc on Stateline roads by Tuesday evening.  East-West rural roads can expect to be most affected.  So if you're traveling on an interstate or state road ending in an even number, you can expect significant drifting snow.

Lastly, there are more clipper systems to come. On Thursday, one will move well north of the area, but I expect us to get in on at least scattered snow showers throughout the day, though it won't add up to much.  Then on Saturday, a third clipper may advance from the Northern Plains giving us the potential for more snow.  There is some uncertainty with this system as major computer models have not had a good handle if the weak low pressure system will actually form and drop some more snow around the area.  Be sure to stay tuned to the blog for future forecasts. - MT
