Heavy Snow for Some and Dangerous Cold for All

Winter Storm Warnings for Lee & DeKalb til Sunday at 6pm
Snow has already begun to fall for much of the Stateline with heavier banding setting up for our south and eastern counties.  Because of this, there is a winter storm warning in effect for Lee and DeKalb counties til 6pm on Sunday in which 6-9" of new snowfall can be expected.  However, if you're in the extreme north and western parts of the viewing area, you may not get much at all.  On top of that, we'll still have wind gusts between 20-30 mph causing dangerous driving conditions over the next several days.

RPM Wind Chill Forecast
The snow will end for the entire area Sunday evening and then an historic Arctic air outbreak takes hold.  The coldest air in over 20 years will placate everyone with conditions bottoming out at 20° BELOW zero by Monday morning.  To add insult to injury, that stiff northwest wind will be blowing causing wind chills--or what it feels like on your skin--to fall to near 50° below zero Monday morning!  These are life-threatening conditions and if you're outside with exposed skin for more than ten minutes, you will start to experience signs of frostbite.  For more info on how to keep warm during this dangerous cold see our old blog post here.  District 205 schools will announce Sunday afternoon if they plan on closing or postponing the first day back from winter break.  For the latest on that, head over to our main page here.

We will remain below 0° for over 60 hours straight starting Sunday night and lasting through Wednesday morning when a warm up finally greets us and we actually get above average with our temps and above freezing by Friday. - MT
