First the snow, then the BITTER cold!

If you thought we had some pretty cold days in the past, just wait until we get into next week!  A fresh 4" to 7" of snow on the ground with little hope of temperatures rising above freezing combined with a true Arctic air mass will lead to overnight lows dropping as cold as -20° Monday night and Tuesday night with afternoon highs likely staying below zero as well!  High temperatures Sunday through next Tuesday will be nearly 25° to 30° below average (average highs should be right around 29°)!  A very strong surface high pressure system combined with an upper level low near Hudson Bay will pull air straight down from the Arctic.  Temperatures will quickly drop behind a cold front Saturday night/Sunday afternoon on the heels of a gusty northwest wind.  Lake effect snow will be more than likely for Indiana and Michigan through early next week.

Wind chills could also become a big factor early next week as the majority of kids head back to school after Christmas break.  Even with the slightest breeze, wind chills could be approaching -35° to -40°!  We could even have wind chills as cold as -25° here this upcoming Thursday night into Friday morning.  Temperatures will slowly begin to rise closer to average towards the end of next week, but there remains no significant warm up in sight.
