Groundhog Day Predictions and a Look Ahead

Whelp its Groundhog Day! The day we drag out poor Punxsutawney Phil to see if he saw his shadow. This year he reports he saw his shadow, and that means six more weeks of winter....or does it?

The Climate Prediction Center issued it's monthly outlook for February on Monday. It goes right along with many signs that are pointing to a warmer month for the area. Most of the country has a good shot at above average temperatures for this month, extending from the west coast through the Plains and into portions of the Midwest. The southwest has the highest probability of temperatures making it above average, but signs have been pointing to warmer than average conditions. So if you are a fan of spring, I think this forecast is for you!

But what is 'average' for the Stateline in February? Well the average daily high at the 1st of the month is 31° and that climbs to 39° by the 28th. We typically get 7.7" of snow through February. But, if this month is anything like last month, we won't be seeing much snow!
