Full sunshine and low dew points Tuesday afternoon allowed temperatures to soar into the low to mid 90s! Parts of Iowa, Nebraska and southern Minnesota reached triple digit heat yesterday afternoon. As evening Meteorologist Brandon Arnold posted yesterday, Rockford observed a 59° temperature rise from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon and our observed 92° tied the record high for the afternoon.
Temperatures this afternoon won't be quite as warm as what they were yesterday, but we'll rise back into the middle 80s thanks to mostly sunny skies. A weak cool front moved through S. WI and N. IL late last tonight and will remain south of Rockford through the majority of the day. Showers and a few storms have been developing along the front along I-80 early this morning and this area will become the focal point for thunderstorm development later today. Areas between I-88 and I-80 will have the highest potential to experience thunderstorms this afternoon.
