While a White Christmas isn't uncommon for the Stateline, getting snow on Christmas is a much different story.
The forecast is calling for 1-3" of snow between Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning. If this holds, it will be the first Christmas for Rockford where we get at least an inch of snow in more than 50 years!
Of course, no record is safe from controversy. In 1996, Rockford received 0.10" of precipitation. Since the high that day was only 5°, there's a good bet that was snow, but since no one took a snowfall measurement, it doesn't count. Enjoy your White Christmas, everyone! -BA
