With all eyes on this weekend's snow event, it's easy to overlook the fact that Thursday is a very active weather day as well.

Freezing Rain Advisories |
This afternoon, temps will warm above freezing into the mid 30s and a weak low pressure system will spark some light showers. This evening, temps fall back near freezing and the rain will quickly transition into freezing rain. Because of this, a Freezing Rain Advisory has been issued for our
western and northern counties. Under 0.10" accumulation is expected and though it's not a lot, it's enough to make the roads very slick Thursday night through the Friday morning commute.

Overnight Saturday into Sunday according to the latest GFS computer model |
As for this weekend, the potential for a winter storm is still possible Saturday night into Sunday as the main low pressure system advances towards to the Stateline. Several major computer models including the ECMWF, GFS, and NAM are all tracking the low into Northwest Indiana overnight Saturday into Sunday causing the Stateline to be close to the core of the moisture while keeping us in the cold sector. Therefore, it looks like heavy, wet snow is the main concern, causing for higher amounts. As of now, it looks like snow will start Saturday night and linger through Sunday afternoon. After all is said and done, it looks like we'll have the largest snow accumulation of the season. - MT
Any idea what kind of effect this will have on air travel from Midway on Sunday?
ReplyDeleteHey Anon,
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't rule out some delays on Sunday. If the current models hold, you're probably talking more rain than anything Saturday night with some mix possible late before switching over to some snow on Sunday. Still hard to tell how much snow, but it definitely wouldn't be in the bullseye for the highest amounts expected.
Hope that helps! ~Brandon
