A strong cold front will bring an end to the fog tonight, but be the beginning of a very cold air mass that will invade much of the U.S.
Temperatures will hold steady in the 40's this afternoon but fall into the lower 20's tonight and only rise about five degrees Thursday afternoon. A second wave of cold air will move in Thursday night with highs going into the weekend remaining on either side of 20°. For this time of year, with no snow on the ground, that's pretty cold! The cold air mass will remain locked in place through at least next week, if not longer, as a series of fast moving systems move out of Canada and into the Northeast. The first of these systems is forecast to come through Sunday. While high pressure will be overhead Saturday afternoon, it will quickly shift off to the east as low pressure moves in from the southwest. Drier air at the surface will initially be an issue, but looks like snow will move in during the afternoon Sunday and Sunday night. It's too early to talk accumulation amounts, but it may be just enough to shovel by Monday morning considering it will probably be a fluffy snow due to the cold and dry air.
High temperatures behind Sunday's system will only reach the low teens Tuesday and Wednesday, which is well below average for this time of year! Overnight lows Tuesday night could fall below zero. The active weather pattern will remain in place through next week with the cold and at least a couple more snow chances through the end of the week.
