The bitterly cold air is sticking around through the end of your work week with temps Thursday night into Friday dipping into the single digits. But, that's only half the battle: a persistent breeze out of the north and northwest will cause wind chills to fall below 0°F by sunrise and will only climb back to the single digits by the Friday afternoon.
This is a far cry from where we were Wednesday with temps soaring above 50°. This of course was due to ample fog and a flow from the Gulf of Mexico, but nonetheless, the Arctic outbreak is impacting everyone around the Midwest. Most places are 20°-40° colder than Wednesday. Due to this significant drop in temps, wind chill advisories have been issued for 10 states in the Northern Plains and upper Midwest in anticipation of feels-like temps dropping to below -30°F!
Highland Community College in Freeport is hosting their annual Jingle
Bell Run this Saturday 12/7, and we received word from the organizer
that the event will NOT be cancelled even though there is a Moderate
Weatherisk in place due to frigid temps and near 0°F wind chills by the
time the race starts at 8:30am. Take precautions and if you feel that
you are getting too cold and go indoors to warm up. - MT
