A true Arctic air mass will move in from the north Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening, pushing temperatures into the teens early Friday morning. Highs both Thursday and Friday will remain in the mid to upper 30's, nearly fifteen degrees below average.
Even though temperatures are expected to take a big tumble late this week, it looks like the record cold highs (coldest high temperature) for Thursday and Friday will remain. The record low temperature for Friday morning is 15 degrees, set back in 1973. Current forecast lows for Friday morning may not be that far from that record.
While there will be an extremely cold air mass (for this early in the season) coming, there are some factors that may limit just how far into the teens our temperatures drop. Either way, it's going to be cold. The one upside is there will be little wind early Friday so we won't have to worry about extreme wind chills.
