Our skies will remain dry through Friday, but a little wintry weather may occur for the weekend. Another storm system will move in from the west late Friday evening, pulling in a slightly warmer air mass aloft. This will cause precipitation, most likely in the form of a rain/snow mix, over Minnesota and Wisconsin Saturday morning. With temperatures warming above freezing Saturday afternoon, any precipitation that were to occur would most likely fall in the form of rain.
Saturday night and early Sunday morning, however, could be a different story. An elongated area of low pressure will pass through Iowa and Minnesota with temperatures falling into the low 30's by Sunday morning.
Two of our forecast models bring precipitation through the Stateline during this time, but differ on the precipitation type. The European forecast model keeps temperatures a bit cooler through Sunday morning and bringing more of a wintry mix, or perhaps even light snow, through sunrise Sunday. If this model were to pan out then a light dusting of snow could occur on grassy surfaces.
The GFS forecast model brings in a slightly warmer air mass late Saturday which would keep the majority of precipitation as liquid, or light rain, through Sunday morning.
Temperatures will be key as to what type of precipitation will occur. With such a cold air mass in place leading up to the weekend, it might be hard for temperatures to quickly rebound. This may mean temperatures have a better chance for being a bit cooler heading into Saturday and Saturday night.
