A strong storm system moving out of the Plains will have the potential to bring strong to severe storms across Illinois. Currently the Storm Prediction Center has a marginal to slight risk for strong storms across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin for Sunday afternoon and evening. The higher threat resides just our south, with a marginal risk over east central Illinois and through most of Indiana and northwest Ohio.
Ingredients are starting to come together that would support severe storms, but again at the moment the higher threat looks to reside to our south. The reason for this is because models are showing a more southerly track to our next system. With the highest threat for severe weather contained to the 'warm sector' of this system, or the area under the warm front. The low pressure will develop over the Plains and will strengthen as it moves closer to the Midwest, before then moving through central Illinois. Models at the moment are keeping the warm front to our south, therefore keeping the higher severe threat south as well. Though its possible to have a few gusty storms over northern Illinois as elevated storms develop ahead of the warm front.
South of the front ( the area in orange) will have all types of severe weather possible, while the Stateline has a threat for strong winds. Timing of the storms will be Sunday afternoon and evening, with severe weather possible after sunset (which is at 4:45 pm Sunday).
However, this is still a couple days out, and the forecast will continue to be fine tuned and updated. Make sure to check back for any updates. And as Chief Meteorologist Candice said in the previous post, it is still possible to have severe weather in the fall, so make sure to change your weather radio batteries this weekend when you change your clocks back!
