You heard me right! But before we get into the upcoming summer-like warmth, we begin today with a DENSE FOG ADVISORY.
This is for Carroll, Whiteside, Ogle, Lee, and DeKalb County and runs until 9AM. Visibility at times could be as low as a quarter of a mile or less. If traveling, drive at a slower speed, use your low beam headlights and allow extra time to reach your destination.
Once the fog lifts, sunshine will dominate our skies for the remainder of the day, allowing temperatures to quickly surge into the low 80s. From there, all will be quiet for the evening commute, your evening plans, and for the overnight hours, with low temperatures ending up back in the mid to upper 50s.
As previously mentioned, this 80° and above average weather will show no signs of slowing down over the weekend and into the start of next week. Mainly due to the fact that sunshine will also dominate our skies both Saturday and Sunday.
The only chance for rain over the weekend comes in the form of a weak cold front Saturday night. Nothing to be concern about as it may bring a passing shower or two during the predawn hours Sunday.
We will however see a more active weather pattern take shape early next week as troughing takes place over the western United States.
This will send multiple storm systems into the central plains, with one of them making a beeline for the western Great Lakes Monday into Tuesday.
With the associated warm front landing somewhere in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, severe weather is on the table. That is why the Storm Prediction Center has placed the Stateline under a 15% risk, which is equivalent to a level 2 slight risk. In the days leading up to Tuesday, be sure to check the forecast frequently as well as making sure to review your severe weather plan. Storm potential does lower towards the second half of next week, with highs cooling into the low 70s.
