Rain slowly departs, hazy skies possible Wednesday

Temperatures soared into the upper 70s Monday, though it did come with scattered downpours as the evening commute got underway.

The same low pressure system, which again has had no support in the upper-levels to speed up its journey eastward, is located west of St. Louis this morning. Forecast models place this slow-moving low over extreme southern Illinois just before sunset, allowing rain chances to continue locally.

Now, we're fortunately not talking an all day rain event as shower chances will be best before midday. From there, showers will taper off, leaving us mostly cloudy but breezy for the afternoon. This combo will result in May's second below-average day as highs peak in the low to possibly mid 60s.

Lower rain chances is good news for those who plan to hit up Food Truck Tuesday by the Conservatory! You just may need to add a light jacket!

Tonight starts off with mostly cloudy skies, with gradually clearing taking place into Wednesday. This will leave us with lows in the upper 40s.

Tomorrow provides a nice break from the active and gloomy weather as ridging in the atmosphere leaves us partly cloudy from start to finish. Afternoon highs will end up warmer in the low 70s.

Along with tomorrow's mixed sunshine comes a little haze as wildfire smoke from Canada sits in close proximity to the Stateline. For the time being, there are Air Quality alerts in place for a good chunk of northern Iowa. Nothing locally, though something to monitor!
