The return of sunshine Wednesday afternoon helped bring temperatures back into the low to mid 70s, a return to above average readings after a brief break Tuesday.
While we've had nothing but sunshine for most of the day, clouds will gradually increase from the west Wednesday night. Temperatures will fall into the upper 40s early, rising back into the 50s shortly after sunrise.
The early morning hours of Thursday will be dry, but a few showers are likely to move in from west to east after sunrise. These should be quick but could expand just a bit in overall coverage through Noon.
A cold front moving in from the west Thursday afternoon will help fire off a few widely isolated thunderstorms, some of which could be strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center does have Wisconsin and far northern Illinois under a marginal risk for severe storms Thursday afternoon. If we're able to see enough moisture return from the south, the increase in instability ahead of the front would be just enough to generate a few thunderstorms. Hail and wind would be our biggest threats with any storm that does develop. The main window for afternoon storms would be roughly from 1pm to 8pm.
Once the sun sets Thursday night the storm threat will end. High pressure moving back in for Friday will bring temperatures close to 80 degrees. Mostly dry conditions are expected for the weekend with temperatures back into the low 80s.
