Sun-filled skies today, multiple severe storm chances to follow

As we hinted at last week, Sunday was going to be the more enjoyable day of the weekend. And boy was "enjoyable" an understatement as sunshine was present from start to finish with temperatures peaking in the upper 60s, close to 70°.

Monday will be another "10 out of 10 as highs will end up in the mid 70s under plenty of sun. So, if there was an outside project that you didn't complete over the weekend, today's weather will give you endless opportunities to get it done!

Cloud cover is expected to increase overnight, paving the way for storm chances around daybreak and during the morning commute hours. As of right now, it doesn't seem like these will pose a threat for severe weather. However, it wouldn't surprise me if one or two of these storms produced heavy downpours and sporadic gusty winds.

Conditions are expected to dry out into the afternoon, bringing some sunshine into the mix. This will help bring highs back into the mid to upper 70s. Now, it's also during this time in which we'll have to monitor the atmosphere and if it can recover in time for a secondary round of storms during the late afternoon/evening hours. Forecast models have been consistent, leaving the more conducive environment well to our southeast. If however we do manage to see storms, strong winds and large hail will be the biggest concerns followed by an isolated tornado.

This active stretch carries on into Wednesday as the Stateline finds itself under yet another Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for severe weather.

Highest threat however will be displaced to our south along the warm front, hence the Enhanced risk across the southern half of Illinois. The story then turns to the cool down we see ahead of the weekend as highs fall back near the 60° mark Thursday. Highs will slowly recover Friday and over the weekend, landing close to the 70° mark by Sunday.
