Isolated thunderstorms developed across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin Wednesday afternoon as breaks in the cloud cover allowed temperatures to warm into the upper 70s! While sunshine did allow a little more energy to build in the atmosphere, the lack of any upper-level support kept most of the storms below severe limits locally. There were a couple severe thunderstorm warnings in Wisconsin, however.
The storms will remain isolated through sunset with the greatest threats being heavy rainfall and frequent lightning. Some of the stronger storms will be capable of 40 mph wind gusts and penny to nickel sized hail. One such storm moved across Lee County earlier in the evening and is now moving across southeast Lee County, into DeKalb County. Wind gusts to 40 mph and nickel sized hail will be possible.
The isolated storm threat will last through sunset with a few showers possible through Midnight. After that, skies will remain partly cloudy with overnight lows falling into the mid-50s.
