Severe storms possible across northern Illinois this afternoon

There's plenty of things to celebrate today.

The first of course if you are a huge fan of Star Wars franchise, May the 4th be with you!

Secondly, sunset today occurs at 7:59PM. This will mark the last sunset before 8PM until August 13th, which if you do the math is 101 days away!

Now, whether you do any special to celebrate May the 4th or if you have outdoor plans in general, it will be best to keep an eye on the radar.

Especially from 3PM to 7PM as a weak cold front coming in will bring the potential for a few showers and thunderstorms. Severe risk is low, though the Storm Prediction Center continues to keep most of the region under a level 1 Marginal Risk. Again, any severe storm will be capable of producing quarter sized hail and damaging winds.

Conditions from there will dry out quickly once the cold front is to our east, allowing skies to gradually clear before the midnight hour.

In a similar fashion to today, we begin our Sunday in the 40s, but see highs climb back into the upper 60s and low 70s by the afternoon. Sunday is also the day of the weekend that features the most sunshine as high pressure settles in from the west.
