Cloudy weather persists through the weekend

As is typical during the late fall season, cloud cover has been extensive over the last couple weeks, with almost every day featuring more clouds than sunshine. We haven't seen less than 80% cloud cover at all in the last week. That trend continued again Friday with 90% cloud cover and high temperatures only remaining in the 40s as a result.

Overnight, we will drop back to the mid-30s for some, but clouds remain in place through Saturday. Saturday afternoon and evening may feature a few breaks in the clouds, but it will not help with temperatures, as we will only reach the low-40s barring any further breaks in the clouds.

Any breaks will fill back in with mid and upper-level cloud cover into Sunday ahead of our next weather system that will bring spotty showers Sunday night into Monday morning. The back side of the system could bring a few snowflakes Monday evening, but chances for that look limited at this time.

Temperatures will be relatively mild for Sunday with highs near 50° as the weather system brings a warm front nearby for the afternoon. Monday will be mild early on with highs in the mid-40s again, but cooler air rushes in behind that weather system and sticks around through next week. Tuesday may feature a little bit of sunshine, but temperatures will remain in the 30s through the afternoon then.

Looking ahead to the middle of next week, there is a large weather system that will traverse the United States between Wednesday and Friday. As of now, the track of that system and highest area of precipitation looks to stay South of the IL/WI state line but stay tuned for any tweaks to that forecast over the coming days!
