The Greater Rockford area received it's first dusting of snow today. It is also the first day that failed reach 30 degrees for an afternoon high since February 25th... last winter when the high was only 25 degrees. It appears as if this cold weather is going to be sticking around with no big warm ups in sight. There is a feature on the upper air weather maps that meterologists call the Greenland Block. When there is a set up like this, a fairly persistent northwest air flow from the arctic reaches of Canada, pumping very cold air into the midwest. If that were not enough to give you a chill, it appears as if an Alberta Clipper is poised to give the he Stateline an accumulating snowfall on Friday night which will gradually diminish on Saturday. Frigid arctic cold will settle into the area by early next week.
