The Winter Weather Advisory for Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll, and Whiteside counties has been extended eastward to include most of the viewing area, minus Boone and McHenry counties (although some light snow is even expected there). Here's the latest from the NWS.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT
TONIGHT TO MIDNIGHT CST FRIDAY NIGHT.
* TIMING...THE SNOW WILL BEGIN AROUND MIDNIGHT TONIGHT MOVING IN
FROM THE WEST AND OVERSPREADING NORTHEAST ILLINOIS. HEAVIEST
SNOWFALL WILL FALL IN MORNING HOURS WITH LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW
CONTINUING THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
* ACCUMULATIONS...TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL RANGE FROM 3 TO 6
INCHES GENERALLY WEST OF THE CHIGAGO METRO AREA WITH LOCALLY
HEAVIER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.
* HAZARDS...SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES REDUCING VISIBILITIES TO
LESS THAN A HALF MILE AND CREATING SLICK ROAD CONDITIONS.
* IMPACTS...HEAVY SNOWFALL WILL CREATE DANGEROUS DRIVING
CONDITIONS DURING A BUSY HOLIDAY TRAVEL DAY. BURSTS OF HEAVY
SNOWFALL WILL MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR ROAD CREWS TO KEEP ROADWAYS
CLEAR.
