Winter Weather Advisory

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for all of the WTVO forecast area beginning later this afternoon and lasting through Saturday evening.  The area of low pressure continues to move through the northern Plains this morning and will track through Nebraska later today and into southern Illinois by Saturday.  Skies will remain partly cloudy through the morning and then increase later this afternoon.  Snow will likely begin to the west of Rockford late this afternoon and overspread the Stateline through the overnight, which is likely when the heaviest of the snow will fall.  We're still looking at roughly 3"-6" of snowfall across southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.  The possibility will be there for higher accumulations further west and northwest of the Rockford Metro area.  This region will sit just to the north/left of the current surface and upper low and this is where typically we can get higher snowfall amounts.

The snow will begin to taper off by Saturday afternoon as the low pulls off to the east leaving us with a few flurries by Saturday night.  Since we're heading into the weekend travel impacts shouldn't be too significant but if you'll be out through the overnight or early Saturday morning, this is likely when some of the heaviest snow will fall and roads may be a little slick.  Conditions should begin to improve by Saturday afternoon.  Be sure to keep checking back for the latest information as we head into this afternoon.  Should we see any change in the track snowfall totals we'll be sure to let you know!
