Great Way to Start the Week!

High pressure centered over Iowa this evening, and ridging eastward across northern Illinois, has provided the Stateline with a fabulous day for Mother's Day with light winds, sunny skies, low humidity, and comfortable temperatures in the 70's.  Skies will continue to be clear overnight tonight. With low dew point air in place across the area, the temperatures will be free to take quite a fall overnight to the low to middle 40's by daybreak. The high pressure will be a dominant feature for the mid west again on Monday as it edges ever so slowly to the south. Sunny skies will prevail once more. The wind will be light and variable as the ridge passes overhead, and it will be a little warmer with a high in the upper 70's. The ridge will be just a little to the south on Monday night, so it will still be mostly clear, but it won't be quite as cool with a low around 50 degrees. The dry air will heat up fairly easily on Tuesday with the high still being the dominant weather feature in the nation's midsection. Skies will start out mostly sunny, but will become partly cloudy in the afternoon with the approach of a cool front from the northwest. High temperatures will reach into the low 80's by mid afternoon, and there will be a slight chance of shower and thunderstorm development from the afternoon into the evening. No gulf moisture will be feeding into this next system, so only light amounts of rain are expected, and most areas probably will not get any rain at all. A little bubble of high pressure will nudge in behind the front on Wednesday. Skies will be mostly sunny once again, and it will be a little cooler with highs in the middle 70's. The surface high will move from near Duluth, Minnesota at 6 am on Wednesday to just east of Detroit, Michigan by 6 am on Thursday morning. Skies will be mostly sunny on Thursday, and a light southeasterly breeze will develop pushing temperatures into the upper 70's. There may be a few more clouds in the afternoon as a warm front approaches the Stateline from the plains. The warm front will move through the area on Thursday night, and overnight temperatures will be mild for the season settling into the upper 50's. On Friday high pressure will be taking up residence in the eastern states. A southerly air flow will become better established into the mid west, and temperatures will be warm, rising into the low 80's, under mostly sunny skies.  However, with gradually increasing amounts of moisture moving in from the south, there will be a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. The weather picture looks pretty much the same for Saturday.  By Sunday a new cold front will be approaching from the northwest. At this time it appears as if there will be a better chance of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon.
