Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect

Severe storms continue to fire east of Madison, WI this afternoon with severe thunderstorm warnings for Dodge, Jefferson and Washington counties.  A warm and moist airmass across the area combined with a few old outflow boundaries as well as an advancing cool front will be the focus for storm development later this afternoon and early evening.  Once this initial threat for storms ends there may be a few more later tonight as the actual front comes through.  We remain on the western side of the watch area so it's possible that storm activity may stay just east of the area this afternoon.  We'll have to wait and see on that.  Threat from any storms that would develop would be large hail, gusty winds, frequent lightning as well as heavy rainfall.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Green, Rock and Walworth counties in southern Wisconsin and for Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle and DeKalb counties in northern Illinois until 7pm.
