Strong Storms Possible Later on Sunday

A stationary front stretches from southern Indiana across Illinois to southeast Iowa to near Sioux City and then west across northern Nebraska into developing low pressure. A new severe thunderstorm complex is developing over eastern South Dakota moving into southwestern Minnesota as of  9 pm on Saturday night. In the Stateline, skies are cloudy this evening, and will remain mostly cloudy overnight. Winds will be east at 10 to 15 mph with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms developing late. The front will lift northward as a warm front on Sunday reaching the Greater Rockford area late in the day. It will be a mostly cloudy and warmer day with a high in the upper 70's. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, but by afternoon thunderstorms will be likely. Some of the storms may become severe on Sunday afternoon producing large hail, strong damaging winds, and locally heavy rains which will continue into early Sunday night. A cold front will push across northern Illinois on Monday morning bringing an end to the showers and thunderstorms. It will be a mostly cloudy and cooler day with a high in the middle 60's. Temperatures will cool down into the upper 40's on Monday night under partly cloudy skies. There will be some cold unstable air aloft on Tuesday and Wednesday giving rise to some scattered instability showers in the mid day through mid afternoon hours under partly cloudy skies.  High temperatures will be in the low to middle 60's.  High pressure will dominate northern Illinois weather on Thursday, and early Friday with mostly sunny skies.  A new cold front approaching from the west will increase clouds in the afternoon creating a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday night, and possibly some lingering showers on Saturday.
