Some Needed Rain Possible Sunday Afternoon

The high temperature on Saturday afternoon reached 92 degrees at the Rockford airport. This is the first time this year that 90 degrees has been recorded. Several cites across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin also reached or surpassed 90 degrees on Saturday afternoon. There was lots of heat across the nation's midsection in advance of a cold front stretching from Minnesota to the Texas panhandle. Severe thunderstorms pounded the plains on Saturday evening from eastern Kansas and Nebraska across western Iowa with several reports of large hail and damaging winds. It will be mostly clear across the Stateline until later on tonight. It will be mild with a low in the middle 60's. Clouds will increase on Sunday as the cool front to the west gets closer. There will be a good strong southwesterly breeze in advance of the front on Sunday afternoon. High temperatures will be in the middle 80's as skies become mostly cloudy and showers and thunderstorms develop in the afternoon.  No widespread severe weather is anticipated across the Stateline with this system.  However,  a couple of strong storms cannot be ruled out later in the afternoon.  The front will be east of the area by nightfall, and any showers and thunderstorms should exit the area off to the east before midnight.  It will be cooler as drier air moves in from the northwest on Sunday night.  The low is expected to be in the middle 50's.  High pressure sittng over the northern plains on Monday morning will provide a couple of delightful days to start off the work week.  High temperatures will be in the low 70's on Monday, and the middle 70's on Tuesday.  The ridge will be east of the area on Wednesday, and temperatures will be close to 80 degrees by late afternoon.  A strong system will be moving across the plains on Thursday.  Brisk southerly winds will develop, and temperatures will respond by jumping into the middle 80's.  A disturbance approaching from the southwest on Thursday night will provide a slight chance and thunderstorms to the Stateline.  It will be very warm and humid heading into next weekend.  There is a chance that temperatures could reach 90 degrees again by next Saturday.
