Hot...But Not Very Humid

High pressure is ridging along the east coast all the way from Quebec in Canada southward to Florida.  The atmosphere is somewhat jammed up with a cool front to our northwest stretching across northwestern Wisconsin across northwestern Iowa to northwestern Kansas slowing it's eastward movement to a hault, and becoming stationary today.  It will be hot this afternoon with a high in the low 90's.  The  humidity will remain relatively low,  so it will not seem too hot.  Showers and thunderstorms will develop along the front and move toward the northeast along it today and tonight.  Those storms will remain west of the area until the front shifts eastward again as a cool front on Saturday.  There will be a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, and a better chance on Saturday night as the front slowly edges across northern Illinois by daybreak on Sunday morning.  With the front dissipating in place on Sunday, there could be some scattered thunderstorms on Father's Day.   It is very dry, and northern Illinois is now in the early stages of drought.  The crops will suffer significant damage if some good rains don't come soon.  There is potential for some helpful rains over the weekend.  Father's Day activites may be damped a bit, but should not be washed out.  It will be a little cooler on Sunday with a high in the middle to upper 80's.  Temperatures will be back up in the low 90's again on Monday afternoon,  and the heat will be here to stay through Wednesday with more days with afternoon highs in the low 90's. There could be some isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms from Monday though Wednesday. The next cool front will arrive on Thursday with a good chance of showers and thunderstorms.  It will not be as warm with a high in the middle 70's.
