Saturday afternoon update

The showers and embedded thunderstorms from this morning have cleared with enough sunshine to allow instability to creep up a bit across northern Illinois.  There have been a few old outflow boundaries from the showers this morning that will likely become the focal point for storm development early this afternoon.  As of right now a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for south-central Iowa and northern Missouri as storms continue to develop and move northeast.  Conditions closer to home are currently being monitored for the issuance of another watch for parts of northwest Illinois with an 80% probability of a watch being issued within the next hour or so.

Looking at the latest radar trends this afternoon and it looks like there are a few more showers/storms that are beginning to develop.  The area just to the southwest of Rockford will be monitored for storm development later this afternoon.  Greatest threat from storms that do develop would be large hail and damaging winds.
