Just how dry is the Rockford area?

We certainly have been extremely dry thus far.  According to the graphic at the left, we need 6-9 inches of precipitation in order to reach a "normal" level for this time of year.  With this in mind, the following precautions should be taken.  It will not be too windy, but starting fires outside should be avoided at all costs.  A stray spark can easily start a wildfire in these dry conditions.  Have a hose or bucket of water nearby to snuff out any stray sparks.  Some towns have issued fire bans, which means you will face penalties for starting a fire, even in a fire pit.  Granted, there are some things we cannot prevent (ie. lightning strikes), but if you follow these precautions, large wildfires can be prevented.
