First Warn Update: Dangerously Cold Air Moves In Tonight

Good evening Stateline! Early today, we had a strong arctic cold front move through the viewing area. This cold front switched the winds to the west & northwest. It also has brought the coldest air mass of the season to the Stateline. With the combination of clear skies and strong northwest winds, temperatures tonight will bottom out into the double-digit negatives.

Now we look to get even colder heading into tonight & tomorrow morning because of a strong high pressure system in the north central United States. This high pressure is filtering in dangerously cold air from Canada and placing it it all across the Midwest.

Our western counties are under a Wind Chill Warning that began at 6 PM tonight and be in effect until noontime tomorrow. The rest of the viewing area is under a Wind Chill Advisory for the same time period. Anyone across the Stateline could experience wind chills between -20° to -35° throughout the night tonight.

As we take a look at real-feel temperatures across the Stateline right now, most locations are already in the double digit negatives. These numbers look to keep lowering throughout the night tonight as wind chills continue to lower.

Here is just a sample of what to expect tomorrow morning. Wind chills look to be in the low 20's starting at midnight. And as we stop the clock at 5 AM, wind chills look to be in the mid to upper 20's around the morning commute.

So whether you are heading to work in the morning or getting ready for work, it is very important to remember that frostbite can occur in just minutes with frigid conditions like this. Any uncovered skin will be vulnerable to frostbite.

To avoid frostbite, limit you time outside, and dress in several layers. Clothes that will keep you warm like wearing a hat or headband that fully covers your ears, wear mittens.
