Gusty Winds Thursday Could Cause Near Whiteout Conditions In Open Areas

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll and Whiteside counties beginning Thursday at 11am, lasting until 6pm.  A strong Arctic cold front will move across the Midwest Thursday afternoon with winds quickly increasing from the northwest.

Temperatures will warm near 20 degrees before the front moves through, but then tumble
once the front passes.  Wind gusts as high as 35 mph will be possible from the northwest causing blowing snow and near whiteout conditions, mostly in open and outlying areas.  There may also be a few flurries/light snow showers with the passage of the front during the afternoon, but no accumulation is expected.

The blowing snow may cause issues on the late afternoon and evening commute, with slick conditions possible through late evening.
