Potentially Life-Threatening Wind Chills Wednesday Morning

Wind Chill Warnings remain in effect for northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin through early Thursday afternoon.  Temperatures have already fallen below zero with wind chill readings approaching, and surpassing in some locations, -30 degrees.

As the mercury continues to drop during the overnight, wind chills will continue to fall as well.  Strong west/northwest winds, gusting at times up to 30 mph, will continue into Wednesday morning.  This will push wind chills readings
across the Stateline down as low as -50 degrees in some locations!  Cold this extreme means frostbite can occur on exposed skin in less than 10 minutes.  If you *must* go outside, please make sure take the necessary steps to cover up any exposed skin and try to limit your time outdoors.  The worst of the chill will occur through Noon, that's how long wind chills could remain close to -50 degrees.  Afternoon wind chills will remain around -40 degrees, falling to
-45 degrees by Thursday morning.
