Update: Winter Storm Watch

12:15pm UPDATE: Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, Lee and DeKalb Counties have been added to the Winter Storm Watch from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.

11:45am UPDATE: The Winter Storm Watch has been extended to include Rock, Green and Walworth Counties from Friday afternoon and into Friday evening.

With the impending snow Friday afternoon and into Saturday, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Carroll, Jo Daviess, Stephenson and Whiteside Counties. The Winter Storm Watch goes into effect Friday afternoon and goes through Saturday afternoon.
We are tracking two separate systems. System #1 is what has been and will continue to provide the slight chance for a few flurries and light snow showers today. System #2 is what will bring us the snow potential for Friday afternoon and into early portions of your Saturday.

Tracking it here on Futurecast, you can see it will be dumping some snow across the Rockies before making it's way into the upper Midwest. By early Friday afternoon we should begin to see the chance for some snow. We have a better chance during the late afternoon and evening hours for some moderate-heavy snow. That chance will continue into your Saturday morning and afternoon.

Here are a few of our weather models that we look at when making our forecasts. As you can see, snowfall accumulations of 4-6" are possible, and totals over 6" are not out of the question. Expect winds to be blustery as well, which will create blowing and drifting snow.
