Frigid Friday

It is most certainly a Frigid Friday across the Stateline. Our average high for this time of the year should be around 30°, but we will be far from that as we go throughout the afternoon hours. Highs today will top out at a whopping 2°, which is 28° below normal.

Brrr... it's cold! Wind chills this morning are dangerously cold in the -20° to -35° degree range, and wont get much better as we go throughout the afternoon hours.

Because of the dangerously cold air, Wind Chill Warnings and Advisories are in effect across the entire Stateline! A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for western portions of the Stateline, and a Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for the rest of the Stateline until noon. Expect wind chills down near -20° - 35°.

Temperatures right now are in the negative single digits and negative teens across the board this morning from -9° in Rockford, DeKalb, Janesville and Savanna... all the way down to -13° in Rochelle. Keep in mind... these are current temperatures!

Wind chills are in the -20° to -30° degree range. At these temperatures frostbite will set in after only around 30 minutes outside. So make sure to take the proper precautions if you have to head out into these dangerously and bitterly cold temperatures.

Since it is a Frigid Friday be sure to dress in layers... multiple/many layers! And even then you will probably still be cold!

The cold air doesn't look to end here. Our peppermint mocha forecast shows we will get to near 20° on Monday, but then we will get even colder into early-mid next week. Highs by Wednesday and Thursday will only be in the negative single digits.

So needless to say, winter is in full force! After the bitterly and dangerously cold air today, some "decent" accumulations are possible Sunday and into Monday. After the snow to end off the weekend and start the week, expect another round of even colder air. Overnight lows Wednesdays into Thursday are expected to drop to down near -21° with wind chills even colder... we could be talking about ALL-TIME record cold!

Even our longer range temperature outlooks show the Stateline is expected to be colder than normal into early February. If you don't like the cold, you will have to head to the southwest to find warmer than normal conditions.
